Episode 12, Part I: Ask “The Hair Doctor” 7-20-11

In this episode of Ask “The Hair Doctor“, Lisa answers the following questions:

0:14 The texture of my hair is thin what should I do about my hair the middle of my hair always breaking off.

2:08 I know that you don’t recommend combs for detangling but I prefer them. I only use them once a week on wash day. Are seamless combs gentler on the strands?

3:22 I have been natural for going on seventeen years now. I just want to know what I can do for the breakage. Thank you for taking the time to address my issue.

5:26 I love the advice you give. You make natural hair care simple and easy to follow. I have a question. I flat iron my hair only 2 times year. It’s never straight on the ends. I saw your product cool down and wondered do I put that on freshly washed hair while it’s still wet or aired dried. Then what do I follow after the flat iron, my hair like to frizz especially at the ends. Thanks so much

7:36 Hello, hope your having a blessed day! I can’t afford to go to a trichologist or dermatologist at the moment (I know I really need to). I was wondering if you can give me some advice and also products to use for dandruff. The dandruff I’m experiencing is the flaky kind (various white blotches around my scalp). It reminds me of a type of cradle cap. I’m pretty sure it’s the fungus type of dandruff because my son used my brush and he now has it. It seems the only way to keep it under control is to wash it every day. I have high porosity extremely dry hair, washing it every day or every other day my scalp loves, but my hair is suffering. Please help if you can.

10:41 Can relaxed hair be detangled the same way as natural hair? 11:17 If not, how would I go about detangling my relaxed hair? 11:34 Also, Can your COOL DOWN hair product be used for flat ironing the roots after a roller set? 12:12 What heat setting is best? Thanks and I appreciate all your advice you give.

12:22 Is it true that hair length depends on genetics? Meaning how long it can get? Or can good hair care allow the hair to get to Mid Back length, waist length and beyond? What are your thoughts on this?
